Festival Venues: Folklorica

The Folklines Program brings to the festival the lines of folk traditions that have come to Australia over the past 220 years. As new migrant communities continually establish and renew their cultural presence in Australia, Folklines seeks to link up with these artists and communities by inviting them to be part of the Woodford experience. They bring to the festival the folk and classic arts that have been connected to centuries of social life and ancient knowledge. This year the program at the Folklorica and Hilltop Stages focuses on the cultural relationship of the breath, to living and dying, to vitality and energy, as expressed through music, dance and vocal traditions. The combination of breath, wind (air) and spirit is the vital force within every living being. Glimpse into how the mysteries and forces of life are culturally explained and ritually acknowledged by tracing the concept of the breath through music, dance, chant, mantra and vocal traditions. Explore and celebrate the cultural and universal potential of the human spirit as performers demonstrate the intricate connection between silence, breath and the ritual production of sound.
