HOW TO GET THERE

Located in between the Brisbane Valley and Queensland's beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland, the Woodford Folk Festival takes place in a rural valley surrounded by natural bushland with plenty of native wildlife and a superb view of the Glass House Mountains from the hill-top above the festival grounds. The festival is about an hour and a half drive north of Brisbane, or 40 minutes west of Caloundra or an hour south of Noosa.

How to get there

Getting there by Public Transport

Go green to the festival this year and try cycling, catching a train, or a bus.

In keeping with the environmental principles of the festival and the local community, use a sustainable mode of transport this year to help our precious environment and help reduce greenhouse emissions.

1. The train and bicycle option

Did you know?

  • taking your bike on the train is free.
  • you can take your bike on the first carriage of any suburban network train travelling during non-peak hour periods.
  • cycling on footpaths is permitted in Queensland.
  • the same rules and responsibilities of shared pathway use apply when on a footpath.

Take the train to Beerwah or Caboolture. This years timetables will be published closer to the time  Click here for Timetable and fares.
Then, get on your bike and ride to Woodford. It is 35km from Caboolture to Woodford and will take an experienced rider to feel comfortable with the fast moving traffic, road wear and the couple of hills the route provides. Ride with friends and enjoy the stunning scenery along the way.
Route descriptions are on Epic's website www.epiccycles.com.au.

In partnership with Epic Cycles in Brisbane, cyclists attending the festival will have access to:

  • a marquee providing secure undercover bicycle parking, mechanical support and an area to socialise
  • a designated camping area
  • a riding partners service, and
  • a free luggage transport option for cyclists who have a Festival Season Ticket, but  are not set up for bicycle touring.

There is a free luggage pick-up service for cycling season ticket holders, operating from Brisbane and Nambour. Luggage left at drop-off points before Christmas is delivered to Cyclist Camping and available by Boxing Day, then returned to the drop-off points after January 2. More details and bookings – absolutely essential – are available from Epic Cycles.

Please ride safely………

  • Be visible. Wear bright colours & use safety flags on trailers
  • Queensland summers can be hot. Wear sun-safe riding gear, sunscreen and drink plenty. Don't become dehydrated. Ride in the cooler times of the day.
  • Be road aware. Allow room for speeding traffic to pass safely. Move on to the verge if necessary.
  • Give way to pedestrians and other users.
  • Keep to the left of the road and overtake on the right.
  • Sound the bell when approaching the back of another cyclist or pedestrian before passing on the right  - have a bell fitted to your bike (this is required by law).
  • Be mindful of pedestrians at all times and adjust speed according to their surroundings (pedestrian volume, presence of children or elderly people, etc).
  • Limit the use of headphones and mobile phones as they reduce your awareness.
  • Consider using a bicycle mirror.
  • Carry tools for repairs, flat tyres etc.
  • Know your route. A missed turn can be a hot mistake.

2. The train and bus option:

Take the train to Caboolture and then catch a festival bus to Woodford.
Keep congestion away from the festival and take the worries of parking and petrol costs out of the equation. Choose safer and hassle-free modes of transport this festive season.

Getting there by air

Fly into Brisbane airport and catch the airport train to Eagle Junction. Then catch the Caboolture train north, trains generally run every half hour, and get off at the Caboolture Station. There are connecting buses from here to the Festival at various times. See above in the "Getting there by public transport" section for more details and to view the bus timetable.

Getting there by car

Why not car-pool this year?

Instead of loading yourself and a mate into the car, think how many extra seats you have in your car and if any of your friends need a lift. Take one car instead of two! Why increase the amount of cars on the road, parking congestion and pollution at the festival? Offer your friends a lift, split the petrol bill and head for the hills!

Check out our Notice Boards for ride sharing.

You can also check out www.thecarpool.com.au which promotes car pooling and ride sharing. This free site puts people in contact with others who want to save money by sharing their travelling costs.

Driving from South:

Drive along the Bruce Highway from Brisbane. Turn left at Kilcoy Exit 152. Follow service road parallel to highway. Turn left onto D’Aguliar Highway. Travel straight through to Woodford. Four kilometers after Woodford, turn right onto Kilcoy-Beerwah Road. Travel one kilometer then turn left into Woodrow Road.
